ASOCIACIÓN DE MUJERES FLORA DEL CHOCÓ

(FLORA DEL CHOCÓ WOMEN´S ASSOCIATION)

¨Flora del Chocó ¨ was founded in 1999, and is located in the community of Santa Rosa, in the township of Plaza Gutiérrez.  The group´s participation in the Women´s Coordinating Committee of Intag was initiated in 2003, and it is currently undergoing a process of legalization.  As of January 2009, Flora del Chocó included 11 members under the leadership of Sra Maria Vaca.

Flora del Chocó considers itself to have an excellent work environment: Its affiliates, as well as being members of the same organization, are friends and coworkers committed to working together and campaigning for the wellbeing of the group.  Flora del Chocó holds general meetings every two months, but also gets together every eight days for quick updates and to share ideas for the design of new products

Each one of the following products was produced by women in their own homes.  These women did not dedicate a set amount of time to the creation of said articles, because they do not have a production quota that they must meet.  When they are working to fill an order, however, it takes anywhere from 6 to 12 hours to craft an article such as a purse.

The following products are crafted by crocheting various fibres:

•  Bags
•  Belts
•  String bags
•  Kitchen sets (individual, bottle carriers)
•  Pot warmers
•  Curtains
•  Shoes
•  Rugs (tapiz, rodapié)
•  Wallets
•  Cases
  Each of these articles is created by women in their own homes in their free time. 

Production Capacity

The organization does not have a defined production capacity, as the amount of time that the women work is determined by the demand for their products.  Production capacity is also influenced by the abiility of the knitter and the type of item that she is crafting.
