 CONSORCIO TOISÁN

In 2003-2004, the Consorcio Toisan was created through the initiative of four organizations working in Intag.  This organizations were committed to environmental conservation and improving the wellbeing of the population through supporting productive and sustainable alternatives.  Said organizations are:

• AACRI (The Rio Intag Association of Agro Artisanal Coffee Growers)
• C.T.G.V (Greater Valley Grower´s Association)
• C.M.I. (Women´s Coordinating Committee of Intag)
• D.E.C.O.I.N. (Defense and Ecological Conservation of Intag)

In 2005, Consorcio Toisan was visited by a delegation from two Spanish organizations working with Agencia Catalana: Xarxa y Sodepaz.  The purpose of this visit was to support and facilitate the CONSORCIO TOISAN PROJECT.  Following a number of meetings and a series of evaluations, the project was granted legal organizational status as CONSORCIO TOISAN.

In September of 2005, Economist Hernando Pereira was named legal representative of the organization.  Consorcio Toisan is a second degree organization, and achieved official registered status with the Ecuadorian Ministry of International Trade, Industrialization, Fishing and Competitivity on November 24, 2005, official registry number 05906.

The organizational structure of Consorcio Toisan, as of 2006, reflects the fusion of the four founding organizations.  These organizations maintain their autonomy, but collaborate in mutually beneficial activities to maximize their efficiency in production, financing and commercialization.  They share the collective purpose of creating an organizational block that opposes environmental threats and supports a grassroots, locally driven development of the Intag and Manduriacos region.

Our Vision

"To be known as the organization entrusted with supporting, strengthening and preserving biodiversity, natural resources and processes, and agro-artisanal and ecological activities through the social reconstruction of gender, at the local, county, regional and national level, in order to improve the quality of life in the country, with particular attention to social conditions."

What do we do?

We strengthen and initiate agro-artisanally productive activities that promote gender equality and lead to a socially, ecologically and economically just and sustainable development, in order to improve the quality of life of residents in the Intag-Manduriacos region.
